Rand Paul vs. The Forces of Anti-Choice

Here is a great video from 2011 in which Rand Paul goes on a rant about how this administration is pro-choice on abortion and anti-choice on everything else.

  1. “Today’s so-called ‘conservatives’ don’t even know what the word means. They think I’ve turned liberal because I believe a woman has a right to an abortion. That’s a decision that’s up to the pregnant woman, not up to the pope or some do-gooders or the Religious Right. It’s not a conservative issue at all.” - Barry Goldwater

  2. Honestly, I have shifted a bit on abortion. I was pro-life growing up, became pro-choice when I got older and now I'm back to pro-life, at least after you hear the heart beat (when it's still an embryo I'm okay with it). I have 3 kids now and I have to say when you hear that heart beat, that baby is alive and so it is no longer a question of choice. Murder is always wrong, even in a libertarian utopia.

  3. I have 4 kids. And I still agree with Goldwater. Two reasons.

    1. Abortion is mostly Democrats killing their future.
    2. Enforcement - especially if it ratchets up the way the drug war did. Failure of Prohibition got us harsher and harsher laws. Every miscarriage will need to be treated as a murder investigation. Maybe not at first but eventually. If you can even win on the question.

And then there is the kicker - the general populace does not think nor vote the way you do. Aiken and Mourdock ring a bell?

And since you are Jewish - how will you get social conservatives to deal with the fact that abortion is REQUIRED if carrying to term would adversely affect the mental health of the mother?

What is wrong with leaving the question to the private sector? Can't anyone do anything without a law and men with guns to back it up?

  4. And then ask yourself - what kind of kid is a mother who doesn't want kids going to raise?

  5. I'm certainly not suggesting a murder investigation. According to Jewish law I believe if you cause someone to miscarry it's a fine. So maybe fine the doctors who perform it and of course, no public funding.

On the question of what kind of kids will be raised my moms who don't want them. I think a large proportion will be raised just like other kids. People change their mind when they have little munchkins in their arms. That is when maternal/paternal instincts come in. And I was always taught by Rabbi's etc that even a second of life is still life and that if you save one life you save a universe.

But that is the way it will go if the history of drug laws is any indication.

      Drug War History

In Jewish law causing a miscarriage is roughly equivalent to breaking an arm as long as the mother suffers no permanent injury. i.e. if she gets hurt it is an arm for an arm, A life for a life. Unfortunately our Christian brothers can't read Hebrew or get the verse in question explained to them by some one who can.

The anti-abortion folks see it as "abortion is murder". You can see where that is headed.
